Mary Catherine Solberg is a contemporary figurative painter living in Minneapolis, MN. Her work consists of broad categories she continually cultivates combining classical methods of portraiture with mixed media techniques. Influenced heavily by the Renaissance and religious iconography, her pieces often emulate ancient frescos or icons with a contemporary twist. Her more recent post-pandemic body of work builds on her experimentation with mixed media layers and the concepts of dreams, memory and nostalgia merged with current events, pop culture, and the conflicting information we are continuously assaulted with.
Solberg has participated in numerous Juried Art Shows and has done over a dozen Solo Exhibitions, including the MN Marine Art Museum, Hopkins Center for the Arts, Pablo Center at the Confluence, Le Meridien Chambers Hotel Downtown Minneapolis, Great River Center for the Arts, Little Falls, MN and The Center for Visual Arts in Wausau, WI. She has also been selected for MN State Fair Fine Art Competition five times including 2024.
As well as private collections throughout the country and internationally, she also has commissioned pieces in the permanent collection of the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis and the MN Marine Art Museum in Winona, MN.
